Welcome to ODFAuthors!

This is a development site for Apache OpenOffice (formerly OpenOffice.org) user guides.

How you can help at ODFAuthors

We are a group of volunteer reviewers, writers, editors, proofreaders, indexers, and translators producing user guides for Apache OpenOffice Writer, Calc, Draw, Impress, and Base. If you want to assist with producing user guides:

  • You need an account to log in to this website. Please write to webmaster@odfauthors.org and request an account. (We had to stop self-registration because of too many spam accounts.)
  • Join the mailing list and introduce yourself.
  • See Getting started with ODFAuthors below for more info.

The OpenOffice.org project is now owned by The Apache Software Foundation and future releases will be known as Apache OpenOffice. Please see this page for more information about the transition from Oracle to Apache.

A task list for the user guides is here. It includes current tasks for the user guides in addition to reviewing any chapters on the Review List on this website.

Reviewers, indexers, editors, and proofreaders needed!

We always need more volunteers, and everyone is welcome, no matter what your level of experience is. Even if you are new to Apache OpenOffice or have no writing experience, you can be a great help by reviewing and editing chapters or indexing and proofreading documents prior to their publication. By participating, you can learn more about reviewing and technical writing as well as in other necessary publishing functions, such as indexing or proofreading. You can also take advantage of this project in order to gain some practical experience in the publishing industry.

Unfortunately, however, we do not at this time have people with both the time and the knowledge to do individual mentoring beyond how to use the website and the wiki, how to follow our processes, and so on. We'll tell you in general what needs to be done, but it's up to you to choose what to do and then do it.
